TEMPO.CO, BandungThe Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicted an increased rainfall in most part of Indonesian regions on Saturday to Monday, February 23-25.

“We call on the public to be aware of the possible impacts,” said BMKG deputy of meteorology Mulyono R. Prabowo on Saturday, Feb. 23.

The natural event may cause flooding, landslide, flash flood, strong wind, fallen tree, and slippery road. Cyclonic circulation around the Sumatra area and closed circulation in West Kalimantan and Makassar Strait are the main factors of the increased rainfall in Indonesia at the end of the month.

The condition makes the air mass concentrated in Sumatra to Sulawesi regions. The humid weather condition also contributes to the growth of rain clouds.

“The condition is expected to occur until the next three days,” he said.

Heavy rain with lightning and strong wind are potential to fall on West Sumatra to Lampung, Banten to Central Java, Kalimantan, West, and Central Sulawesi, as well as Papua.

BMKG also recorded the potential of a 2.5-4 meters high wave at the Indian Ocean in the southern part of Java Islands, Bitung waters, Sangihe-Talaud Islands, the northern part of Halmahera waters, Halmahera sea, the northern part of Maluku sea, Raja Ampat waters in Sorong and Manokwari.

The high wave is also potential to occur at the Pacific Ocean in the northern part of Halmahera to Papua, the northern part of Biak waters, and the northern part of Jayapura to Sarmi.
